BIOGRAPHY

Hey y'all! I'm Jared Johnston, a recently graduated sports broadcaster from Syracuse University. I was born and raised in Tampa, FL, and got into sports thanks to the Tampa Bay Lightning along with the growth of European soccer on American television. Thanks for checking out my website! Reach out if you have any questions, comments, or just want to chat.

I started play-by-play broadcasting thanks to a video livestream program at my high school. I was encouraged by my dad to give calling games a try because I remembered the names of people he worked with more than he did himself. From sophomore to senior year, I called every sport imaginable but didn't improve all that much!

I'm forever grateful for my time with the Newhouse School at Syracuse University for teaching me so much about the broadcast industry. Across my four years, the biggest reason I've learned so much is thanks to constant revision and jockeying to be your very best. You learn how to constantly better yourself on your individual journey, but most importantly, realize you are only as strong as the people around you.

Sports broadcasting, in my opinion, sometimes pertains very little to the substance of actual sports. It's about telling stories, portraying vulnerability, developing a rapport with listeners, establishing credibility — the list goes on. I embarked on this career path initially because it seemed cooler than the restaurants I grew up working in.

Now, in my young career, I cherish the humanity that compels people to unite through sport.
